Cameron Boyce! I'm surprised that he is near the Aussie side tbh, saw him play in the shield final 2 seasons ago, looked a good prospect nothing more, only had a leggie but had got good turn, was a bit wild though and lots of bad balls. By the looks of it he had a decent not great season last year(20 wickets at 35) but judging by the fact he went at over 4 an over I expect he's still a bit wild.
Anyone seen him more recently has he got a few more tricks now?

Has anyone got anything about this young Queensland legspinner that there's been murmurs about being a potential Oz bolter against SAf? I've seen his name mentioned a couple of times now but I can't remember it, does anyone know if is he's any good? that'd be cameron boyce, i didn't know he was in contention just yet but he will get his chance one day.

In NZ Todd Astle has leapfrogged Nethula in the legspinning stakes (Nethula spent the Indian tour doing nothing and not surprisingly has lost his form).
I played against Todd and used to practice beside him a few years ago, genuinely surprised he's got a call up but apparently he's worked hard and has been getting some good results.

young blokes team got flogged yesterday so not a good start to the season for them but jimmy picked up two more scalps off his 3 overs. 2/11 off 3. All the bowlers copped it yesterday but jimmy's figures were thrown by two boundaries in succession but he got their best player, a lefthander, out.
so 5 overs, 4/14. He's only bowled 5 overs and he has got a wicket in 4 of them!
he plays for his school tomorrow again and i might take the day off and go watch him.
he is at the top of the comp bowling averages at the moment. checked out his main rival in legspin for his age-group yesterday. he goes alright but too overarm. but as he plays for district as an allrounder i can tell they have coached this kid a bit lately and he is far better and more accurate than last season.
jimmy's got the edge on him in legspin though, and he proved it yesterday.

Jimmy needs to get in touch with Adil Rashid and give him some pointers Macca! Sounds like he's doing well - how old is he now..14?

Sounds like he's doing well - how old is he now..14? i think rashid always had the problem of being too overarm? jimmys figures were 2/11 off 3 so now he has 4/14 off 5 overs so far and that puts him 2nd in the averages out of over 90 bowlers in his comp, pretty good eh?

He's doing really well!
Rashid's got a funny bowling action, as he runs in he looks as though he's running with a crouch and yeah a very high arm.

I just did another google search for spin bowling forum and this forum comes up No.1 in the searches above Big Cricket now! It just goes to show how obscure this stuff is, but good work everybody it looks as though we're fairly established and bit by bit we'll pick up more of the discerning type of forum user as we go.

I don't think there's any problem with a high arm action, Mushtaq Ahmed did OK with it! It seems to me that Rashid doesn't know what kind of bowler he wants to be and is just searching for something that works rather than working to a gameplan.

... bit by bit we'll pick up more of the discerning type of forum user as we go. Oh, does that mean I'll have to go? Cheers, Graeme

Macca thanks for the link, really interesting to hear Warne's views particularly reading it from a coach's persepective. I like what he says about traditional spinners and not be forever looking for the next mystery bowler. We have also spoken on here and BC about how to retain spinners around the 14-15 age range, certainly not easy. btw well done to Jimmy on his start to the season, makes the damp foggy conditions in the UK fade away for a moment or two reading about his expoits

A good piece there on Spin Bowling and Warne and he says some good stuff in the article, maybe he will commit some time to the development of spin sometime in the future, perhaps even following in the footsteps of Jenner?
I think it's useful for anyone that is looking out for young spinners at club level and beyond to see such an article, it's certainly something I'll poke under people's noses and make them aware of, with my first stop being my blog and Facebook next. I think also kids need to see it, so that perhaps when they are having their expected overs allocation cut short, they might have some sense of perspective and maybe, be able fight their corner and not feel its a lost cause?

here is an article about a young bloke from our club. He was the youngest to play 1st grade in our comp since dutchy holland. www.theherald.com.au/story/424467/leap-of-faith-for-young-spinner/?cs=306 i have watched this kid train and he is damn good. he spins it big pretty much all legbreaks and straight ones and varies his pace from pretty quick to quite slow. very serious and determined when he trains. A bit too much for my liking but he has a definite path towards a NSW colts spot.
