He plays again tomorrow in the away game so we went and had a 6 over session today and he really bowled a great spell out in the middle with a few people watching, which is good training conditions because an audience can throw a lot of bowlers.

That's a great tale Macca. Those results (with the audience there too) will really give him strength to carry on on those days where someone takes to him.
Cheers, Graeme

Well he didn't get to play in the rematch because he did his ankle in playing touch football before the game.
But he still was getting plenty of kudos from the whole school for his bowling on the friday. He will be in the college newsletter this week for his bowling.

Well indoor training has started for me and it's far too late in my opinion but I guess it's the club's call. One pleasing aspect was that I hadn't lost the offspinner style arm ball from my legspinner grip that I got going at the end of last season, it's still there and was cleaning up the rusty batsman that I bowled to (using my index finger I push the ball out the front getting it to swing in). The other good thing is my protege (who rightfully took my spot last season) is back and hitting his marks with his legbreaks and sliders straight away. He made huge strides last season, he was basically a social player out of high school but with a lot of hard work and some tips from your truly (actually it was more his skills but hey) he made it into our 2nd side. Hopefully if he can nail down a topspinner and googly he'll be given a chance in the 1sts, this kid's got some potential. If they don't give him a go I'll endeavour to make a comeback Hogg style

Anyone get to see Hogg bowl - how's he doing? I had a quick look on Youtube and it looks like they're putting the full matches on there at the minute, I'll have to try and catch up with it all.

Yep, seems slightly short of a gallop but he's still got it. He's pulling the odd one short which is killing his figures but he's going to ruin someone at this tournament.

Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing the next game if he features. Just watch Pak v SA, that was a good un, South Africa screwed up big time neglecting to use for of their spin overs in preference of pace bowling, Pakistan looked dead and buried and then Umar Gul put in one of his boundary hitting performances as he does and pulled them back to help take the game.

Brilliant story, the thing I like about it is the fact that it highlights the fact that people shouldn't try and emulate Warne, he is unique and as it says there - he's got the physique of a bouncer. Good article!

Really pleased with how my son is bowling one week out from round one. He has been landing them in the zone and varying the spin and pace enough too beat a few good players so he should go alright.
He bowled really well to this lefthander in the nets this arvo. I could see him getting a bit of drift into the sea breeze.
Got to check out this 16 year old legspinner who has played seniors 1st grade here for 2 years go through training. He goes hard. He is focussed the whole session and treats it very serious.
I noticed he lost some pace towards the end of his spell but at the start he must have been around 80 k's an hour and spinning it heaps.
I saw him checking my sons bowling as he packed up and had a drink. He raised his eyebrows at a couple that my young bloke got to turn and bounce, and i thought "yeah that's right sunshine, youre not the only one around here that can spin a cricket ball big"

Nice one Macca, you should try and get some game footage of Jimmy bowling it'd be great to see. You sound exactly like me with regards to that comment at the end!

We've done! If you do a Google search for the topic 'Spin Bowling Forum' in Google we now appear in the Top Ten searches on Google. Similarly if you search leg Spin bowling you'll probably see my main blog www.mpafirsteleven.blogspot.co.uk/ in the top five with the discussion between Graeme, Gundalf and me on Drift. The conclusion that I draw from that is, that this topic is extremely obscure and that people are moving towards Twitter and Facebook and that Forums might be a little old hat these days? It really does look as though if you are a wrist spinner/Leg Spinner this is the place to be and that it only takes a handful of people to be discussing it and it ends up in the top ten searches on Google. I also think that now that Warne has given up - that impact he had on Kids bowling wrist spin is beginning to fade, there's no icon any longer and I reckon that central figure is important. I wonder if this heralds the waning in popularity of the art again? All the current spinners that are making the headlines on a consistent basis, who are held up as being the best are Finger Spinners.

Dave, well done on the Google listings. Partially agree with the analysis re Twitter/Facebook although I still think forums have their place, particularly for more obscure interests (hence leg spin fits in just fine ) I am a little more optimistic about leg spin in general though, the 'Warne effect' still hasn't completely worn off and one of his legacies was make coaches wake up to the idea that leg spin wasn't something confined to the sub-continent or black and white footage. I think pre-Warne if a leggie turned up at a club no one knew what to do with them and given its a pretty long learning curve, for many opportunities were scarce. Now I think (hope) there is at least the general acceptance that leg break bowlers still have a place in the modern game and need time and the chance to develop. As for finger spinners, just check out Pitchvision its all about 'mystery' nowadays, forget the fact that Swanny has shown how well a conventional offie can do everyone is still obsessed with finding something different. Not saying that different is bad, but that shouldn't mean we stop developing good conventional bowlers
