Anyone out there bowl using the Iverson-Gleeson grip and technique? I used it for a few months when I had a finger injury - may have been a dislocation ? Found it to be a technique that was very accurate, can't say as I knew what the ball was doing that much, but I've just been bowling it back and forth to my son Joe and it seems to be coming out as a very decent top-Spinner with the same accuracy benefits that I found a few years ago.

My "3 down, 1 up" grip is essentially the same, if you take the Iverson-Gleeson grip and drop the index finger on the ball and the ring & little finger down then you have my grip.
The spinning action from my grip comes from the opposing movement of my thumb and middle finger just like the Iverson-Gleeson grip but as there is more support for my middle finger there's no chance of straining it. The killer delivery tends to be the googly more than the leg break (Ajantha Mendis uses the Iverson-Gleeson grip if you need a modern reference).

Yeah that's the one that I'm using/trying - I think I was inspired by a post you might have wrote saying - why don't spinners ever mix the 2 disciplines? My younger son who used to bowl Wrist spin (and still does) seems to have taken up finger spinning while he's been recovering from an accident and he's picked up easily bowling very accurately with it and getting the ball to turn quite well. So, looking for additional methods to trick the batsman and wanting to add to my Top-Spinners and Flippers that I'm working with I thought I'd try the I/G method and it came out okay - with my son saying that it dipped loads. So maybe it's something I'll look at and keep bowling?

The things that the grip allows (my one, 3 down 1 up, thumb on):
- Sharper spinning googly - Easy to let loose the OBS (the thumb behind the ball) - Index finger can be used to bowl a finger spinners stock ball and arm ball (developed the arm ball last season, waiting to bring it out after Xmas...should have bowled it on Saturday) -Ball is already in position so it is not necessary to cock the wrist
Cons:
- Stock leg break spins less - Difficult to bowl a topspinner without a lot of practice - Flipper is hard to get to despite the fact the grip would appear to encourage it at first glance

Here's the first of 4 pictures of my grip, note that in practice it is a thumb and middle finger grip (Iverson) but with mine the other fingers add balance and take some of the stress off the middle finger. Attachments:

Grip as seen side on. Note that if this was the view as seen by the batsman then this would be my OBS. Attachments:

Release, side view. Not the best shot but you'll notice the stress between the middle finger and thumb which provide the bulk of the spin (aided of course by the wrist). Attachments:
