Sounds realy interesting. I think you hit on a key point with regards to being confident that the person who is guiding you, does actually know his stuff and is not blagging it. In a million years I wouldn't say that I was a coach at all and it's kind of worrying that they look to me to guide kids in some way at the club, hence the reason I try and keep things dead simple. I love the sounds of the over the rope drill with the idea that it forces you to bowl with a high degree of over-spin in order to get the ball to dip. It's something I've considered, but without having someone there looking at what you're doing and whether you're making any progress and telling you what you're doing wrong and need to do in order to rectify it, it sounds as though it may be rather pointless. The other thing would be how high do you set the line and exactly how far in order for it to be a worthy exercise. The arm going to the side is an interesting point as well. Definitely sounds like a worthy investment to me if you're a younger bloke.

When I was a kid I used to put up a badminton net up about half way down the pitch. The trick is to see how fast you can bowl but still drop the ball on a length. Also did all the old tricks of putting up poles that I had to spin the ball around etc.
You must remember to try to bowl at a batsman every session as well if you can, otherwise you quickly become unable to convert the skills you learn on an empty wicket, into a realistic match setting. Nothing beats a little game of garden cricket with just a bat and a cricket ball and see who can survive the longest.

Here's another a couple of days later where I've tried to address some of the issues high-lighted in the comments on youtube...

www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=487878677941495I asked the guys at cricket asylum if they'd be able to dig out any of the footage of me bowling when i went there. if you have a look on their facebook page you can see what they've put up so far. sadly you can't see my action but you can see the result!

Just the one! A good-in though, it'd be good to see you in the nets for a few.
